[MAIN SCREEN]
The Main Editor Screen allows you to define new Menus
and Menu Items. Options in the window on the left apply
to the Menu while the settings in the top panel are for
the highlighted Menu Item. To define a new Menu Item:
1. Use the cursor keys to move the Highlight bar to the
line on the menu where you want the new Item to appear.
2. Press F2 to enter the Item Description Editor and type
in the description of the item. Additional help is
available inside the Editor.
3. Set 'Selects:' (S) equal to MENU for the item to
display a submenu or RSIDNT to start a program.
4. Press F5 to Activate (Define) the new Item.
A special Command Assistance Line at the bottom of the
screen will show you a summary of available commands.
NOTE: A "Fast-Add" command (F6) lets you define new items
quickly without having to enter the Menu Editor.
[REG EDITOR]
You may define a Custom Help window for each menu
created. The Custom Help windows are those seen when the
F1 key is pressed during normal menu use.
The MSI Text Editor is used to create Custom Help
windows. A summary of the Text Editor commands is given
here. See the User's Manual for a complete description.
HOME & END - Move cursor to the 1st and last characters
on a line, respectively.
BACKSPACE - Delete the character to the left of the
cursor.
DEL - Delete the character under the cursor.
INS - Insert one or more spaces at the cursor.
ALT+C - Clear the current line.
ALT+D - Delete the current line.
ALT+I - Insert a blank line at the cursor.
ALT+Q - Quit the Custom Help window editor.
[ACTION WIND]
The Action Window lets you define a set of DOS commands
that will be executed when the current Menu Item is
selected. Any valid DOS Batch File command may be used as
an Action Command.
The MSI Text Editor is used to create your Action
Commands. In addition to the normal Text Editor commands,
you may also Import (F2) and Export (F3) commands.
F2 - Import (read) Action Commands into the window from
an existing DOS Batch File.
F3 - Export (write) the Action Commands out to and
existing or new DOS Batch File.
DEL - Delete the character under the cursor.
INS - Insert one or more spaces at the cursor.
ALT+C - Clear the current line.
ALT+D - Delete the current line.
ALT+I - Insert a blank line at the cursor.
ALT+Q - Quit the Action Command Window.
[ITEM EDITOR]
The Item Descriptor Editor lets you create and
maintain the descriptions used for your Menu Items. Use
the Descriptor Editor to define new Menu Item strings,
insert lines between exiting items, delete exiting items,
format the menu window and change the Menu Item's command
key. (The command key is the first character of the item
string, or the first two characters if two or more items
begin with the same first character.)
DEL - Delete the character under the cursor.
INS - Insert one or more spaces at the cursor.
ALT+C - Clear the current Menu Item string.
ALT+D - Delete the current Menu Item*.
ALT+I - Insert a blank line at the cursor.
ALT+Q - Quit the Item Description Editor.
*Items that display submenus may only be deleted AFTER
the submenu has been deleted.
[PASSWORDS]
Each Menu Item may have a unique Password that must be
entered by the user before the Item may be selected. The
user is given two attempts to enter the Password, then
denied access if the correct Password is not entered.
Passwords ARE CASE SENSITIVE. That means that the
password must be entered using both Upper and Lower case
letters, exactly as they are entered in the Password
window.
The only time a Password is visible is during the
actual editing of the Password. At all other times the
Password window will display "None", if no Password is
defined for the highlighted item, or "*******" if a
Password has been defined for the current item.
Press ENTER to leave the Password Editor and return to
the Main Editor Screen.
[SELECTS]
The "Selects:" setting determines HOW the current Menu
Item will behave when it is selected. Options are:
Action - Non-Resident Item. MSI will NOT be in memory
when this Item's Action Commands are executed.
Rsidnt - Resident Item. MSI WILL REMAIN in memory
when this Item's Action Commands are executed.
Menu - Item will display a submenu.
Dual - ADVANCED USE. Defines two sets of Action
Commands and a submenu. See User's Manual.
ErrLev - ADVANCED USE. Returns an ERRORLEVEL code to
RUNMSI.BAT for external processing.
KeyBrd - Allows you to add any valid MSI command as a
selectable Menu Item.
ReBoot - ADVANCED USE. Replaces AUTOEXEC.BAT and/or
CONFIG.SYS & Reboots system.
Event - ADVANCED USE. Define an Event to execute at a
specified date & time. System Event Menu ONLY.
[STRING EDIT]
The MSI Text Editor is also used to edit individual
strings. This means that there is little difference
between editing a Window of Action Commands and a Password
or Menu Name. The commands available for editing this
string are summarized here.
HOME & END - Move cursor to the 1st and last characters
of the string, respectively.
BACKSPACE - Delete the character to the left of the
cursor.
DEL - Delete the character under the cursor.
INS - Insert one or more spaces at the cursor.
ALT+C - Clear the current string.
ALT+D - For strings, same as ALT+C.
ENTER - Accept the string as shown.
ESC - Cancel string edits. The string will be
restored to its original state prior to being
edited.
[BOOT DRIVE]
The Boot Drive is the disk drive that your computer
'boots' (gets its initial instructions) from when it is
first turned on or reset. If you have a harddisk, this is
normally Drive C.
The MSI Menu System uses the Boot Drive for Menu Items
that 'Select' ReBoot. These Items let you define a set of
Action Commands to place in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, and/or
another set of Action Commands to place in your CONFIG.SYS
file.
When the ReBoot Item is selected, the contents of
AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS are replaced, IF a respective
set of Action Commands has been defined, and your computer
system is ReBooted.
The Boot Drive letter tells MSI where your AUTOEXEC.BAT
and CONFIG.SYS files are located.
[EVENT HELP]
The Event Control Panel lets you manage the scheduling
for the highlighted event, including enabling and
disabling the event.
D - Define Event. Access the Event's Action Commands.
S - Status. Enable or Disable the current Event.

The Event Control Panel will appear each time an item
is highlighted. Press 'C' and F2 to define the Item
String for the Event.
[MENU COLORS]
Two sets of Background/Foreground colors may be defined
for the menu. The "Border Colors" define the colors used
to draw the Menu border and title. The "Item Colors"
define the colors used inside the Menu for the Item
Strings.
B - Border Background. Define a background color for
the current Menu's border.
F - Border Foreground. Define a foreground color for
